Violence and substance use among women
Abstract
Pompidou Group studies in Europe and beyond have shown a higher lifetime prevalence of violence among persons who use psychoactive substances than in the general population, and greater use of psychotropic substances among persons who have experienced violence in their lifetime than among those who have not. The differences are significantly greater among women than among men and tend to confirm a link between exposure to violence and substance use among women. In addition, Pompidou Group latest study for Drug-Facilitated Sexual Assaults showed that this constitutes a greater risk for women and recalled the problematic that arise from the non-standardised and disaggregated data collection methods.
